The 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season is the 63rd season of professional stock car racing in the United States. The season includes 36 races and two exhibition races, beginning with the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway and ending with the Ford 400 atHomestead-Miami Speedway. During the 2010 season, NASCAR announced several calendar changes, including race additions at Kansas Speedway and Kentucky Speedway, and the removal of one race each from Atlanta Motor Speedway and Auto Club Speedway. Once the 2010 season had concluded, NASCAR also announced changes to the point system, and that the fuel will be changed from Sunocounleaded to an ethanol blend called 'Sunoco Green E15'. Chevrolet entered 2011 as the reigning Manufacturer's Champions, while Jimmie Johnson is the defending Driver's Champion.

Race number thirteen for the Sprint Cupt Series is held this week on the Kansas Speedway, and it is called the STP 400, held on Sunday, June 5th at 1:00PM. After that, the series heads to the Pocono Raceway for the Pocono 500 on June 12th. After that, stops in Michigan, Sonoma and Daytona are all coming up on the calendar.  Kansas Speedway is a 1.5 miles (2.4 km) tri-oval race track in Kansas City, Kansas. The speedway was built in 2001 and currently hosts two annual NASCAR race weekends. The IndyCar Series also raced at the speedway between until 2011. The speedway is owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation.

Kansas Speedway will be the site of the inaugural Kanrocksas Music Festival on August 5–6, 2011.


Kevin Harvick won the most recent race on the Sprint Cup Calendar, called the Coca-Cola 600 and held on the Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 29th. Second place was David Ragan, with Joey Logano coming in third. Fourth and fifth was Kurt Busch and A.J. Allmendinger. Before that, the May 21st All Star Race and the Showdown was held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Carl Edwards won the All-Star Race with Kyle Busch in second and David Reutimaann in third, while David Ragan took home the 2011 Showdown title.

The Sprint Cup Standings have Carl Edwards in the top spot right now with 445 points while Kevin Harvick comes in second with 409. Jimmie Johnson is third with 408 and Dale Earnhardt Jr. is in fourth. Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch take fifth and sixth on the table, and the rest of the top ten are Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer and Ryan Newman.
